Since the beginning of this year, I have been working on a new full length novel project. Today I completed the first draft of what is currently being titled In the Vast and Boundless Deep. This draft is about 29,000 words long, which is shorter than my target, but came to an end at what felt like the right place. And there’s a great deal in there to expand upon when I go back in for re-drafting.

I kept a log of all the music I was listening to while writing. Anyone interested in that can find it here: Music Log

I can’t give away too much about what the novel is about, only that my original summary was Ballard’s High Rise meets Bergman’s Seventh Seal, and that kind of still stands. My research material has included Dante’s Inferno, Paradise Lost, The Epic of Gilgamesh, Beowulf, The Book of Enoch, and the work of various post-structuralist philosophers, among other things. So make of that what you will.
